Tracy E. Gilchrist, is an LGBTQ media veteran. As the Advocate’s first-ever Feminism Editor she writes about the intersections of women, LGBTQ equality, and pop culture. Her recent features on film and television include “Little Women,” “Booksmart,” “Bombshell,” and “The Bold Type.” A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, where she studied critical film theory, Gilchrist parlays her love of cinema and television into thoughtful, often playful, critiques of the mediums in relation to current events.
Gilchrist created and cohosted “The Advocates Podcast,” the first podcast for the 50-plus-year-old brand. She is an experienced moderator, recently conducted panels for the films “The Favourite,” “Booksmart,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” and for TV shows “Good Trouble,” “Tales of the City,” and “Euphoria.” In December she hosted Showtime’s official “The L Word: Generation Q” “pink carpet” livestream.
Previously Gilchrist was Editor-in-Chief of SheWired (Here Media’s premiere site for queer women) for eight years. She served as Deputy Editor for Pride.com. On Sirius XM’s The Frank DeCaro Show she was pop culture correspondent. Her career in LGBTQ media includes contributing to “Curve” and the Boston-based “In Newsweekly.”
Beyond her passion for cinema, Gilchrist is active in the community, moderating panels at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. For AIDS Lifecycle, she is a training ride leader and captain of the award-winning fundraising team Pretty Little Riders.
